Youp didn’t know about the American version of Flappie | Inland

Van ‘t Hek is very surprised about the song by the American pop musician Todd Rundgren, writes Het Parool. “I heard his version this morning and immediately called my management, but they didn’t know anything about that either.”

In the American version (see below), Rundgren sings about the story of rabbit Flappie, who would have a nasty Christmas. The song starts with ‘It was Christmas morning, 1961 …’ The lyrics have remained almost the same, only translated.

‘Quite good’

The Christmas song Flappie comes from the early years of Van ‘t Hek. The song saw the light of day at the age of 25, but when Flappie was released on record in 1978 it was actually not such a big success. That would grow slowly.

Whether Rundgren can match the Dutch success of Flappie remains to be seen. Van ‘t Hek would have no problem with it. “Everyone is free to record their own version of it, of course. I also think he did well. When I heard him sing Flappie, I thought: well, not a bad song at all. ”
