Young people in the hackathon are making a video for the song / Day of the group Carnival Youth

The hatchback in the new building on Alejas Street gathered five teams of students, each led by an LMMDV teacher, supervising and helping to realize the ideas of the youth. During Hakatona, bright and recognizable professionals in the field shared their knowledge: fashion artist Una Pūpola, screenwriter and director Marta Elīna Martinsone, cinematographer Gints Bērziņš and photographer Iveta Gabaliņa.

“What I have experienced during these 24 hours is not only a colossal journey into the world of creativity, but also the satisfaction that we have such wonderful, talented and purposeful young people and strong individualities in Latvia. Hakatonas challenged not only the readiness of young people to work in teams, but also to train in a meaningful way to use the available resources (including mentor advice) to achieve the desired result, “reveals fashion artist Una Pūpola at the end of the event.

Hackathon’s task was for each team to create a video clip within 24 hours Carnival Youth songs I am rich. Accordingly, the teams were given 44 seconds and a part of the song to be visualized was drawn.

In the first part of the day, the teams worked with their mentors to develop their ideas – create a story, stylistics and draw a frame. In the second stage, the filming was planned, costume and make-up sketches were drawn and the necessary details were prepared. In the afternoon, the teams began work on filming, editing and post-production, which took place throughout the night. LMMDV students were provided with appropriate equipment to implement the idea – cameras, computers and software.

The next morning, the videos created were presented and rewarded. Mentors evaluated the work done by the teams in three categories: idea, execution and assembly.

Young people appreciated the opportunity to try their hand at creating an audiovisual project and the knowledge provided by professionals in the field, but find it difficult to produce a quality video in 24 hours. “It is fair to say that this is the first time I have taken part in an event of this kind. “During this project, I also tried the profession of an actor, which definitely inspired me,” says Tom Samsons, a 4th year student in the Department of Popular and Jazz Music.

The mentors, in turn, were impressed by the young people’s skills, the high quality of their work and their enthusiasm for working all night.

The video of the song will reach the audience in the middle of March
