Young people (12 to 18 years old) arrested for terrorizing Amsterdam metro stations | Inland

The youths were involved in several incidents. For example, a 17-year-old suffered a broken jaw at Central Station in January after being assaulted. In March, the young people are said to have harassed and kicked a woman. Five more violent incidents followed that same day.

Several people filed a complaint. “It clearly showed that the abuse and intimidation left their mark on some victims. They feel unsafe on the street because of the unpleasant experiences,” said the police, who put together a special investigation team that collected all incidents and camera images.

The incidents all happened at metro stations of the North/South line. Many of the young people, who are related to each other or who knew each other from school, turned out to be already known to the police. The suspects have been heard and the examining magistrate has released them. They will have to appear in court at a later date.

Most arrested young people have been banned from contact and location, the police reported. As a result, they are not allowed to interact with the co-defendants and are no longer allowed to visit the stations. The fact that they have not all received such a ban is because they are suspected of various things, according to a police spokesperson. “It concerns quite a lot of incidents, in which the young people in different compositions were involved. So that differs per person.”
