June 26, 2023 – Channel 3 reported that Mr. Natthaphong (surname reserved), a 52-year-old chief construction contractor, has fallen victim to a heartbreaking scam. He shared his story, filled with tears, about how he was tricked by a 42-year-old widowed woman into creating a good profile and eventually marrying her. Little did he know, it was all a scam, and he ended up losing millions of baht, nearly bankrupting him.

Mr. Nattapong, who had previously worked abroad until 2021, returned to Thailand and met a woman named Dusadee on Facebook. She claimed to be a civil servant in Mon Mai District, Maha Sarakham Province, and worked at the Bang Sai Arts and Crafts Center in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. After two months of talking, they entered into an open relationship, and everything seemed genuine.

However, the woman started asking for money, claiming it was for various reasons. She asked for 85,000 baht to turn money and close the budget in the Department of Mulberry Silk. Then, she requested another 100,000 baht to redeem mortgaged land. Mr. Nattapong, thinking they were getting married, didn’t hesitate to lend her the money.

After their marriage, the woman insisted that Mr. Nattapong pursue a Ph.D. to earn a higher salary and secure a government position. She even claimed to be a part-time lecturer at a famous university. Believing in their future together, Mr. Nattapong agreed to pay the hefty tuition fees of 1.2 hundred thousand baht per semester for the Ph.D. program and 50 thousand baht for language lessons.

While Mr. Nattapong worked hard at home, the woman did nothing but prepare teaching materials and reports. She would leave the house in the morning, claiming to teach, study, and work, but she was actually sitting at her best friend’s house.

The woman then convinced Mr. Nattapong to buy 24 rai of land for a cow farm, gardening, farming, and a fish pond. He transferred 800,000 baht as the initial payment. Later, she urgently asked for another 300,000 baht, claiming that the Department of Lands would come to survey the land. Mr. Nattapong pawned his gold bars and necklace to fulfill her request.

However, suspicions started to arise when Mr. Nattapong discovered that his relatives had no knowledge of the land purchase. He confronted the woman, but she avoided answering and disappeared. When she finally returned home, Mr. Nattapong confronted her again, but she remained silent. He asked for the deposited property to be returned, only to find out that the gold was fake.

Devastated and betrayed, Mr. Nattapong realized that everything was a lie. The woman’s profiles were fake, and she was not a civil servant, did not work at the Bang Sai Arts and Crafts Center, and was not studying for a Ph.D. She had been sitting at her friend’s house all along.

Mr. Nattapong tearfully shared that his dreams were shattered, and he had lost all his money to his beloved wife. He now questions what is true and seeks justice for himself and the other victims of this woman’s scams.

The mother of the deceptive woman revealed that her daughter used to be a teacher and had two previous marriages. She confirmed that the land Mr. Nattapong claimed to have redeemed was never received by her. When the mother tried to ask her daughter about the situation, she was met with threats and told not to interfere.

This heartbreaking story serves as a warning to others about the dangers of online scams and the importance of verifying information before trusting someone with your life and finances.
