The 20-year-old, who was picked up on Sunday by a pleasure boat in Tavira, died this Friday in a hospital in Lisbon, where she had been hospitalized since last Sunday.
According to the Correio da Manhã, it is Bruna Madeira, resident in Altura, who was doing diving accompanied by her father when she was picked up by a boat, having suffered a severe head trauma and several injuries to her left arm. She was transported by helicopter to the Hospital de Faro but, hours later, she ended up being transferred to Lisbon.
The accident happened a mile from the coast, south of Cabanas de Tavira and, according to Rui Andrade, Commander of the Captaincy of Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António “neither the recreational vessel nor the victim would be in the restricted area”.
Contacted by CM Francisco Amaral, Mayor of Castro Marim, confirmed the young woman’s death. “It is a sad day for the whole Castro Marino community. The family will receive psychological counseling,” said the mayor.
