You will soon be banned from gas boilers. At the same time, no one cares that the replacement is much worse and more expensive

It may surprise you, but the first steps to ban gas boilers were not made last year, when it became clear that it would not be easy at all with this raw material, and moreover, environmental efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensified. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has been talking about the end of gas boilers for many years and in 2021 set 2025 as the year of their end.

It is acted hastily

It is questionable whether it will be possible in the Czech Republic, for example, by this date, but the subsidy mechanisms are already running at full capacity. If you switch to renewable sources in the form of photovoltaic power plants or heat pumps, you are entitled to significant financial incentives. However, few people calculate that it is mainly money for manufacturers and installation companies, who will increase the required amounts by these amounts, and people still pay high prices anyway.

For example, in Germany they took it really fast and wanted to outrun the demand of the energy agency. This year they approved that from the beginning of next year it will not be possible to install gas boilers as the primary source of heating. They were mainly to be replaced by heat pumps. But as practically all experts warned, something like this is impractical in such a short time and would lead to considerable problems. Everything was thus postponed until later, but with the understanding that it would definitely take place.

It is interesting that heat pumps do not have to be the final alternative to gas boilers. More and more, their shortcomings and relatively high operating costs are becoming apparent. On the other hand, there is currently a lot of talk about the fact that natural gas could soon replace hydrogen.

Gas isn’t so bad after all

Unfortunately, the question of how to produce hydrogen at an affordable price is still not resolved. In addition, states do not want to allow household heating with hydrogen in the first phase, as they reserve it for the decarbonization of certain industrial areas, where hydrogen will play a crucial role.

But as it turns out, we may be promising something from hydrogen that it cannot deliver. Although at first glance it seems that its emissions consist only of water vapor, scientists from Cornell University they documented, that this substance can be significantly worse from the point of view of environmental pollution than the burning of natural gas. It is gas that is largely used to produce hydrogen. Unfortunately, however, it seems that some large countries, such as Great Britain or Germany, have already bet too much on hydrogen to be able to simply switch gears.
