Figures: so many (un)vaccinated people are in hospital with corona

RIVM has been calculating the effectiveness of the vaccines since 11 July. This is done on the basis of information from hospitals. They register whether people have been vaccinated, and with which vaccine.

Majority in hospital not vaccinated

The calculations have now been supplemented with figures from the first two weeks of November (.docx). In those two weeks, 2134 people were hospitalized, and 331 people had to be treated in intensive care. 51 percent of those 2134 patients hospitalized were unvaccinated.

Per hundred people in the Netherlands, 12 are not vaccinated, 3 partially and the rest (85 percent) fully. In the hospital, unvaccinated people are therefore quite overrepresented: 51 percent of the patients have not been vaccinated. In intensive care this is even 68 percent.

In this graph you can see how the ratios are:

Chance of hospitalization 94 percent smaller

According to RIVM calculations, a vaccine significantly reduces the chance that you will become so ill after a corona infection that you have to go to hospital: by no less than 94 percent. The institute writes that a new report, which was sent to the House of Representatives this week.

The chance that you will end up in intensive care is even 97 percent smaller with a vaccine. And if you are younger than seventy, the vaccines work even better: then the percentages are 98 and 99 percent.
