Manufacturing industries have always tried to use chemicals to improve the yield of the product or its conservation. Fortunately, there are very strict laws in Europe that protect the consumer. But be careful, because some imported products can contain toxic substances.

In the USA the use of a substance that can have carcinogenic effects on our body is also allowed: the potassium bromate. This preservative improves the yield of bread and other products made with flour (such as crackers), making them even more appetizing.
Clinical experiments were carried out on rats, which showed the harmful effect in terms of increasing tumors on these animals. It affects the kidneys and the thyroid the most.
As for the man, there is talk of a possible risk. Europe preferred to proceed with caution. So, when in doubt, it has sanctioned to ban the use of this additive in the production of baked goods.
Canada, China and Brazil have also banned the use of this substance for food use.
Despite this, it may happen to find bread imported from countries where the use of potassium bromate is allowed in the supermarket. Therefore, it is best to always read the label! If the information is not exhaustive, choose Italian and European products!
