You didn’t know this about princess Amalia

Princess Amalia will turn 18 next Tuesday. We only see her in the media a few times a year, but recently we got to know her a little better through the book that Claudia de Breij (46) wrote about her. In this she explains enough about her life, but there are things you might not know about the princess…

Musical

It’s that Princess Amalia’s future is already set, otherwise she might just have become a musical star. She can sing very beautifully, as is apparent from the book by Claudia de Breij. ‘She sings the entire song, powerful and steady. Her parents have not exaggerated, I do not know what I hear. She can sing really beautifully,” the comedian wrote. Amalia prefers to keep the singing to herself; we won’t be seeing her perform anywhere anytime soon. The princess is also fond of musicals. She played in The Sound of Music on Matilda and made a musical together with a friend: Christmas Monastery.

A few years ago the video below of Amalia appeared.

Trilingual raised

With a Spanish-speaking mother and Dutch-speaking father, you would think that Amalia was raised bilingually, but during her upbringing she learned English as well as Spanish. The joke ‘talking English’ when your children are not allowed to hear something became ‘talk French’ in the family of the Orange family. Amalia says in Claudia de Breij’s book: “In the past they spoke French if we were not allowed to know something. Now that I am no longer a child, everything is just in Dutch. Open card.”

In the past, nannies were also involved. Amalia spoke mainly English with them. “Then English, then Spanish, always something else. It drove you crazy.” But she does think it was good for her language development.

Sportapps

Amalia has played hockey and sailing for a long time and now still enjoys horse riding and tennis. During the corona crisis, ‘normal’ sports were not possible for a long time and that is why the Oranges went to work with apps. “It was an issue that they couldn’t play hockey. But we tackled that together as a family,” Máxima said about it earlier this year. “Thank God we had digital assets. We had apps that let us take small workouts have done.”

Tiara’s

The princess will have them to choose from in a few years and that’s a good thing: Amalia loves tiaras. “I love tiaras. Show me a tiara and I’ll know where it came from. I can recognize all the tiaras in Europe,” she said in Claudia’s book.

fanatic

When Amalia goes for something, she goes for it with the full 100 percent. She is very fanatical. This also became apparent during King’s Day 2019, when Amalia held her first television interview. When asked if Amalia had prepared for King’s Day, Amalia said: “Well, very little actually.” After which Máxima interrupted her and agreed with her that she had prepared herself for the regional quiz. “That’s not true at all! She researched all nine municipalities, she made cheat sheets, because she wanted to win.”

Study choice

She is currently on a gap year, but after the summer holidays Amalia will start studying. In Claudia’s book, she said she wants to do “something economical.” The princess does not see money as a goal, but does want to understand it. Her interests lie in history, economics and law. Amalia wants to obtain her bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands and her master’s degree abroad.

Recently, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima gave an update on Amalia’s gap year:

Sidejob

Amalia gets pocket money and sometimes assists in the service in the beach club of a friend’s parents. She always felt a bit burdened when she was allowed to eat there for free. That’s why she helps when it’s busy. “I’m clumsy, you know, and not a hero with trays.” But the daughter of ‘Prince Pils’ can tap a beer and according to the owner Amalia is a real one cocktail queen.

Bond with Moon

They follow each other on Instagram and sometimes exchange things: Maan and Amalia appear to have a special bond. They got to know each other two years ago during King’s Day and saw each other again this year during The Streamers concert at Noordeinde Palace. The princess would have dropped by on her horse especially for Maan to have a chat.
