Ok, if you have the right smartphone you can of course use WhatsApp, but to be honest, two iOS users have significantly more options with iMessaging.

You can of course also use your AirPods use with Android devices, but since iOS and AirPods are both from Apple, the connectivity here is significantly better arranged. The AirPods also offer more options for Apple users.

With an Android update, it depends on the manufacturer of your smartphone whether and when your smartphone gets the update. All this without you having to think about it as a user. Of course you can also have your Android device backed up regularly, but that is quite a difference compared to the ease with which this is arranged at Apple.
