Dakar, July 22 (APS) – The President of the Republic, Macky Sall, on Wednesday asked the Secretary General of the Presidency to take stock of the preparations for the Youth Olympic Games initially planned for 2022 and which have been postponed in 2026.
The Head of State, chairing the meeting of the Council of Ministers the same day, “asked the Minister of State, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic to make an exhaustive inventory of the organization’s preparations” .
Last Wednesday, Senegal and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided by mutual agreement to postpone the Youth Olympic Games initially scheduled for Dakar in 2022 to 2026, the IOC announced on its official website.
Coming back to this postponement, the President of the Republic said that this decision had been taken “in view of the global risks and impacts linked to the COVID-19 pandemic”.
“In this capacity, he took the opportunity of the Council, to thank the IOC for the confidence placed in Senegal and Africa to organize this great planetary sporting event”.
Macky Sall “also congratulated the National Organizing Committee for the remarkable work already accomplished,” added the statement from the Council of Ministers.
