Yesterday’s Heavy Rain, Several Areas of Central Jakarta were Submerged by Floods Page all

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – High rainfall in several areas of DKI Jakarta on Tuesday (18/1/2022), causing flood at eight points in the Central Jakarta area.

This was stated by the Head of Section (Kasie) for the Maintenance of the Central Jakarta Water Resources Service, Achmad Daeroby.

“Currently there are eight that are monitored by us, such as Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, Johar Baru, Achmad Yani, Suprapto, Kwitang, Gunung Sahari, Jalan Cikini,” said Daeroby.

Daeroby explained that the flooding was caused by the high intensity of the rain that hit at noon yesterday.

As a result, water in the canal overflows into the streets and settlements, causing puddles.

“But the water recedes quickly. This inundation is due to the very high volume of water,” he said.

As a result, a number of access roads in the Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur area near the State Palace and the National Monument (Monas) were cut off due to a puddle of water as high as about 30 centimeters.

Traffic density around the Monas area and Gambir Station is unavoidable. In fact, there was a traffic jam at Tugu Tani heading to Medan Merdeka Utara.

Meanwhile, Jalan Bungur Raya in front of the Central Jakarta District Court was also submerged by floodwaters as high as 20 centimeters.

Due to the flood, the road to Jalan Galur Raya was temporarily closed by the Central Jakarta Traffic Unit. Traffic flow on the road was observed to be busy and a bit congested.

Floods as high as 60-70 centimeters also inundated the slow lane of Jalan Letjend R Suprapto towards the Simpang Lima Senen.

Central Jakarta Metro Polres Satlantas divert traffic temporarily to pass through fast lanes and lanes busway around the road.

Floods at a number of points in Central Jakarta are known to have varying depths, ranging from 15 to 60 centimeters.

Head of the Central Jakarta SDA Sub-Department, Abdul Rauf Gaffar, admitted that he was continuously trying to get the water to recede quickly and ensuring that all water pumps were deployed.

“We are still carrying out handling so that the water recedes quickly. The water pump is currently active,” said Rauf when contacted yesterday, Tuesday (17/1/2022).
