He noted that due to the national selfishness of a number of states, the Alliance continues the policy of double standards, maintaining “the illusion of open doors for Ukraine, wide open them to other countries.”
“In such circumstances, we are forced to look for other options. Look for them together with our partners,” Yermak said.
The head of the OP also explained why right now it is important to join the European Union as soon as possible.
“We see no alternative to EU membership. Any proposals for its substitutes that we have heard recently, we consider unacceptable by definition. Integration into the EU for us is not only a way to modernize and reform the state and increase GDP, but also one of the factors of reassurance our security,” he said.
Yermak said that Ukraine does not see Russia among the guarantors of security, since it never adheres to international treaties. He explained that the common goal of Ukraine and the guarantor states should be to deter Russia from aggression in the future. He noted that Ukraine insists that future security guarantees be of a legal nature and be ratified by all participants.
“First of all, this means ensuring the defense capability of Ukraine. We have demonstrated to the whole world that we are able to withstand an enemy that is superior in strength. Therefore, in the future we expect that guarantees will remove all political reservations in restrictions on arms supplies to Ukraine and will contribute to the rapid restoration and maintenance of its defense potential “, – said the head of the OP.
He added that another key factor in the security guarantee system should remain a long-term and flexible sanctions policy.
