yeewi askaane wi leaders conference sets up the REEL

The Yeewi Askan Wi (Yaw) coalition set up a structure called REEL (Network of Local Elected Officials of Senegal), this Sunday at Dakar City Hall. This platform of mayors and presidents of departmental councils aims to pool the efforts of elected officials under the banner of the said coalition. This event is the culmination of the meeting of the 81 local elected representatives of the opposition political organization for 3 days at the Dakar city hall, whose office and bodies will be installed before the end of this month.

The mayor of Ziguinchor specified the opening of the platform to other local elected officials of the opposition and even of the majority. As long as they are driven by the desire to make their communities better.
Justifying the creation of this platform, Ousmane Sonko evoked the “freedom of association”. He spoke of the legitimacy of their organization in the same way as the Association of Mayors of Senegal (AMS). For the financing of the “Reality”, the leaders of Yaw rely on the payment of the funds provided by each community as its contribution to the AMS. They are also counting on the reallocation of the State subsidy in the same way as that allocated to the AMS.

The Yaw leaders’ conference reassures that the “Reality” will integrate the groups of local elected officials on an international scale. In the company of Khalifa Sall, Habib Sy, the mayor of Thiès Dr Babacar Diop, Malick Gackou ensured the regular holding of this kind of training.
Yaw leaders took the opportunity to criticize the increase in the number of deputies in the National Assembly from 165 to 172. Ousmane Sonko warned of a possible increase in the budget of the parliamentary body following this addition of representatives of the people. He considers the funds allocated to the legislative branch to be excessive given its “current inefficiency”.
