Yaqut Says Ex FPI and HTI Are Still Working Underground

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

General Chairperson of the Ansor Youth Movement Ruby Cholil Qoumas said the state apparatus could not be left alone to confront members of the former Islamic Defenders Front (REITs) and Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) which is still moving today.

He conveyed this at the opening of the XXV GP Ansor Grand Conference in South Kalimantan, Wednesday (30/3).

“We can’t let the state apparatus deal with them themselves, ex-HTI and ex-FPI and the like. We can’t leave it up to state officials to deal with it themselves,” Yaqut said, broadcast on the Ansor Youth Movement YouTube channel.

He, who also serves as the Minister of Religion, assesses the current state of nationality in Indonesia is increasingly difficult. Because, the challenges of diversity continue to emerge. Moreover, groups that use religion as a tool are also still moving to achieve their interests.

Yaqut then gave an example that former members of the FPI and HTI still continue to move even though the government has disbanded.

“Even though we were able to disband HTI and FPI together with the government, they still roam underground and move in their own way. This is everyone’s job. Please think about this,” said Yaqut.

Seeing this, Yaqut emphasized that GP Ansor as an element of civil society has the same obligation to maintain diversity in Indonesia. Moreover, Ansor and Banser have positioned themselves as the front line for the defense of the Republic of Indonesia.

Therefore, he hopes that the Ansor GP Congress plan must pay attention to these various aspects and conditions. It is known that the congress is the highest forum in the NU autonomous agency that is engaged in the youth sector.

“Please analyze and look at the needs of the organization under these conditions. Don’t just make a congress event, no. The substance must be considered with the spirit that we have, what we hope can be formulated at this Konbes,” he said.

On the other hand, Yaqut also answered questions regarding his refusal to serve again as Ketum GP Ansor. He didn’t answer clearly. However, Yaqut said that the organizational rules do not allow him to be general chairman continuously.

“Is it that I don’t want to be a chairman again? The PD/PRT won’t allow me to be a chairman, it’s always clear. We also don’t allow PBNU’s AD ART to have Ansor chairman as he pleases,” he said.

Not only that, Yaqut also answered the concerns of cadres that he would not think about Ansor again if he did not serve as chairman. Moreover, currently he is also the status of the minister of religion.

“I said. In any position, now I can be trusted as Minister of Religion, this must be recorded carefully. I am a person who understand thank others. Moreover, an organization as big as Ansor is what allows me to stand here. That’s because of the struggle of all friends. Not me,” he said.

CNNIndonesia.com have not yet confirmed Yaqut’s statement to other related parties.

It is known that HTI and FPI were disbanded on the pretext that one of them was related to treason and terrorism. Civil society considers this step correct even though it is classified as authoritarian.

The FPI leaders then formed the new Islamic Brotherhood Front, or FPI, which was led by Rizieq Shihab’s son-in-law, Muhammad bin Husein Alatas.
