It is around 4:30 p.m. this Sunday, August 13, 2023. We are in the Mvog-Ada district in the 5th Yaoundé district, a stone’s throw from the central post office, on the site of the Caveau-rail-Mfoundi market crossroads road project.

More than a year after the launch of the works, the project with an envelope of 142 million FCFA has still not been delivered. The arm that goes from the road to connect the rails is transformed into a football stadium by half a dozen young people having fun kicking a ball that lost its freshness a long time ago. Curiously, no gear is on the site, let alone sand or gravel.

Reached by telephone yesterday Saturday, August 12 to try to find out more about the progress of the work on the said site designed to relieve congestion on the Mobil Mvog-Ada-central post intersection axis, Yannick Manga, head of the communication unit of the town hall of Yaoundé 5 informs us that “ With regard to the road construction site at the Caveau-rail-market crossroads of Mfoundi, the work is carried out calmly but there is a concern with the Ministry of Transport which considers that: the road passes a few meters from the exit of the tunnel, this which is dangerous for passers-by ».

The head of the communication unit of the Yaoundé 5 town hall goes on to say that “ the guarantee given by the municipality of Yaoundé 5 for the work to continue is that a barrier will be placed at the level of the crossing of vehicles as in Obobogo and the municipal police officers will watch every day at the level of the crossing to ensure safety citizents. As you can see, there is blockage and this blockage is not the fact of the municipality ».

It is indeed a road with a total length of 480 ml and a beginning of 15 ml with a width ranging from 7 to 10 meters. The sanitation to be carried out here consists of reinforced concrete gutters and gutters, the T2 and CS2 curbs are installed on either side of the roadway delimited by a 1.5 meter reinforced concrete sidewalk. There will also be gullies to divert runoff to the Yaoundé Sanitation Project (PADY) canal.

The infrastructure will have a pavement made up of two parts: the first in interlocking cobblestones 13 cm thick before crossing the rails and the other in bituminous concrete 4 cm thick. The technicians will be responsible for carrying out earthworks, clearing and treatment of potholes before the application of these different types of coatings.

In addition, it is also planned to place a signaling system at the crossing of the tracks with the installation of a level crossing as well as safety barriers and type AB metal panels. This is a project resulting from funding from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (Minhdu) for the 2022 financial year.
