Indie developer Mate Games announced on November 24 that the survival horror game “Hell on earth]will be released by 2023. A free demo version is also available on itch.io. This is the content that allows you to play the first 30 minutes of the game.
Hell On Earth is a first person survival horror game. Set in 1989, the player controls a detective named Daniel Drummond to investigate a case of missing persons. A 15-year-old girl named Anne Marie Monroe has gone missing. She disappeared while exploring the ghost town of Old Jefferson. Using the notes and books left behind as clues, players enter the spooky mountains. Numerous monsters suddenly appear along the exploration path and block the player’s path. The player will overcome these barriers and track the whereabouts of the girl by making full use of limited weapons, ammo and recovery medicine.
Monsters that are in front of the player can be defeated with some exceptions. Medikits can be used for general life recovery, and antidotes can be used to detoxify enemy poison attacks. There are also drawbacks to long-term hand-to-hand combat. If you fight blindly and use a lot of resources such as recovery medicine, the game will become difficult later on. Therefore, it seems necessary to move wisely while consulting resources and timing when fighting monsters.
“Hell On Earth” is also full of information to understand the story. Players can view three items: journal, bestiary, and key item. Diary is the main character Daniel Drummond’s diary, and it seems that Daniel’s suffering and the changes in the character’s mental state caused by the story are drawn. Bestiary is like a “monster encyclopedia”. It describes the background, strengths and weaknesses of the monsters the player encounters. Key items allow you to browse items such as letters and notes related to the story that underpins the game. Through this textual information, a profound story seems to be traced.
There is an abandoned house in the mountains where the stage is set, and the items that can be used to advance the next game are hidden. However, an immortal spirit is hiding in the abandoned house that follows the player. Collect items while hiding from immortal spirits or search for the girl without going near the abandoned house. Players seem to have to make a choice that balances high risk, high reward, and safety. In addition, the monster AI of this job, including the spirit body, follows the player always grasping the player’s location. With terrifying voices of monsters coming from behind you, you will have a thrilling experience.
