Xiaomi improves update policy: four years of Android updates for 11T series

Next week, on September 15, we will launch new high-end devices from Xiaomi see. In the run-up to the event, the manufacturer has now published a blog post. It can be read that the Xiaomi 11T and Xiaomi 11T Pro will receive longer updates. It concerns three major Android version updates. The smartphones that come with Android 11 coming onto the market, will therefore also receive updates to Android 12, 13 and 14. The company also says that it will release security patches for four years, so that you are always up-to-date. Whether this new policy will also apply to all upcoming smartphones of the company is still unknown.

Streaming service HBO Max not to the Netherlands for the time being: you miss this

HBO Max has been operating in the United States since May 2020 and has recently expanded to more countries. At the end of October, the video streaming service will also be available in Europe, starting with six countries. The Netherlands is not one of these, and neither is Belgium. In 2022, fourteen new European countries will be added, but again no Netherlands and Belgium. Why the streaming service does not appear here for the time being, HBO is unsure. The company does report that more countries will get access to HBO Max next year than has been announced now.

Oppo Reno 6 (Pro) official: midrange smartphones for photographers

The Reno 6 and 6 Pro are the successors of the Reno 5models, which were not released in the Netherlands. The new smartphones are mainly recommended by Oppo for their photo and video capabilities. For example, the devices can film with a depth of field effect, a feature that is mainly known from photos. Oppo also pays attention to an advanced stabilization mode to prevent video shake and an algorithm that should yield better colors. An automatic night mode would improve photo and video quality in the dark. The Oppo Reno 6 has a 64 megapixel main camera, 8 megapixel wide-angle lens and 2 megapixel macro camera. On the Oppo Reno 6 Pro four cameras are installed.

This is how Motorola really wants to charge your smartphone wirelessly

Motorola demonstrates in a video a method that can charge your smartphone really wirelessly. The charging technology was briefly shown in May, but appears to have improved and is now explained more clearly. Motorola speaks of Space Charging, an improved version of the GuRu technique. The video shows that the charging station can send enough energy through the air to charge four smartphones at the same time. The smartphone does need technical components to receive the energy and convert it into electricity. The charging station sends the energy through 1600 antennas at an angle of one hundred degrees, which is quite wide. According to Motorola, the smartphone must be within three meters of the charging station to charge wirelessly.

Monthly Android updates for Samsung Galaxy A52s and more

Samsung has updated its Mobile Security page, where the manufacturer keeps track of how often devices receive updates. The page now shows that the recently announced Galaxy Z Flip 3 on Z Fold 3 get an Android security update every month. This is not surprising, because Samsung provides all its high-end smartphones with monthly security patches. Also the Galaxy A52s, which was recently released in the Netherlands, can count on monthly security updates. At the beginning of this year, Samsung announced that it would support smartphones for longer. All Galaxy devices released in 2019 or later can count on four years of security updates.
