Xiaomi SU7: The Electric Sedan Competing with Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan

Xiaomi SU7’s performance and technical capabilities will allow it to compete with Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.

The electronics and smart device manufacturing giant, the Chinese company Xiaomi, has turned its attention to the automotive industry. The first model, the SU7 (Speed ​​Ultra) electric sedan, is ready thanks to an investment of 10 billion US dollars.

The car’s design was assisted by ex-BMW specialist Chris Bengle, creating a silhouette characterized by a curved panoramic roof, daytime running headlights combined into a single unit and a trunk lid that is also used to house the elliptical taillights.

The 4.98 m long sedan will be offered in two versions – with rear or all-wheel drive. The electric motor of the basic model will develop 299 hp, while the dual-motor version will have 673 hp (838 Nm). The car will reach 100 km/h in 5.3 and 2.8 seconds respectively, the maximum speed will be 265 and 210 km/h, the range will be up to 800 and 668 kilometers.

The sedan promises a record-low drag coefficient of 0.195, active aerodynamic elements, including a rear spoiler, and an improved Xiaomi Pilot automated control system. Autopilot is powered by lidar, 11 high-resolution cameras, three millimeter-range radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and two Nvidia Drive Orin computing platforms. The multimedia device with a 16.1-inch screen runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and the HyperOS operating system.

It is known that the sedan supports fast charging with 800V, is endowed with a fast charging function even at low temperatures, but the autonomous driving system will be able to detect obstacles even in snowfall.

The price of Xiaomi SU7 is yet to be revealed.
