Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro Review – Inleiding

Summarized

The Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro is the successor to the 2018 Pocophone F1 and last year’s Mi 9T Pro. It is large, but also contains a large battery and a large screen. Although that screen is 60Hz, where many competitors have a smoother screen, the maximum brightness is very high, the colors are good and it has no hole or notch for the front camera; it’s in a pop-up. However, the rear cameras steal the show; the setup is versatile, with 8k video recording, a macro camera for close-up photos and a camera with ultra-wide angle lens. The software could have been better, because especially images with less light are disappointing. That can be fixed with a third-party app. Ads in the Miui skin can only be disabled per app instead of a single check in the setup and that’s more work. So this is a phone for those who like to go the extra mile to make a phone to their own taste. If you feel that a phone should work optimally out of the box, this is probably not the best choice.

Final verdict

Maybe nothing is as hit and miss as the weather, but Xiaomi can do some of it too. Think about it: it had a big hit with the Pocophone F1 in 2018, which won one of the most read reviews of the year due to its stubborn choices and competitive pricing. Soc, memory, storage and cooling were high-end, but on the case, for example, Xiaomi had saved some material costs. The successor came last year, but it was called Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. A less memorable name, especially because you just had to find it between the Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9T, Mi 9 Pro, Mi 9 Lite and a number of variants.

Now there is a successor in the line of the F1, but that is the F2 Pro. There is also a Poco X2 in India, although we have not yet seen it in the Benelux. It is a revised version of the previously released Redmi K30 Pro. The pricing is also confusing. He briefly went on sale for five hundred euros, but later cost six hundred euros until the price went down again. More than enough reason to see how this new phone fares.
