Xiaomi is ahead of Apple in smartphones and is already chasing Samsung

For the first time, the Chinese brand Xiaomi took second place in the global smartphone market, ahead of Apple. This reveals a research report published by the analytical company Canalys. Huawei is the new leader in smartphones sold

According to the results for the second quarter of this year, Xiaomi’s market share increased to 17% with sales growth of 83%. Apple’s share for this period is 14%, and the supply of its products has increased by only 1%, reports TASS.

“Xiaomi is growing its overseas business rapidly,” Canalys Research manager Ben Stanton said in a statement, noting that shipments had increased 300 percent year-on-year in Latin America and 50 percent in Western Europe.

In first place on the global smartphone market remains the South Korean giant Samsung, which controls 19% of the market (sales increase by 15%).

The Chinese company’s models are aimed at the mass market and are significantly cheaper than those of the competition. “Compared to Samsung and Apple, the average price for Xiaomi smartphones is about 40% and 75% lower, respectively,” says Stanton.

The next goal – a breakthrough in the high class

Xiaomi is now striving to enter more confidently with high-end devices. Earlier this year, it launched the Mi 11 Ultra, a premium smartphone starting at 5,999 yuan ($ 928). The Chinese company has launched its first foldable phone – Mi Mix Fold, which sells for 9,999 yuan (about $ 1,547).

This price range puts Xiaomi against Apple and Samsung in the premium segment. But its local rivals, Oppo and Vivo, are also trying to break into the high-end device market.

The fight will be contested as Oppo and Vivo are willing to spend a lot on advertising in major media and events (such as the Roland Garros and Wimbledon tennis tournaments, as well as European Football Championship) to impose their brand abroad. Xiaomi is reluctant to act in this way, CNBC reports.

“All vendors are fighting hard to secure component supplies amid a global shortage, but Xiaomi has already turned its attention to the next prize: shifting Samsung to become the world’s largest vendor,” Stanton said.

The Chinese high-tech corporation was founded in April 2010 and is headquartered in Beijing. At the end of December last year, its market capitalization exceeded $ 100 billion for the first time.
