Xavi praises Yamal, gives a warning about comparisons with Messi, Barcelona will challenge Porto
WHAT HAPPENED? Barcelona recently rewarded Lamine Yamal, 16, for their outstanding performances in the ongoing 2023/24 season with a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2026.
Barca also included a €1 billion release clause in his new contract. Xavi praised the teenager but remained cautious when comparing him to club legend Lionel Messi, as he felt such a correlation would only hinder the player’s progress.

BARCA RELIABLE: Yamal has appeared in nine matches for the Catalan giants in all competitions and contributed two assists to their cause.
During the international break in September, he became the debutant and youngest goalscorer in Spanish football history when he scored his maiden international goal in La Roja’s 7–1 win over Georgia in a Euro 2024 qualifier.
