Würzburg: Why there is no drive-in cinema on Dallenberg for the time being

“We’re in the starting blocks,” reports Nico Manger, partner of the Manger, Werther & Werther GbR, who also successfully organizes the fortress flickering at Marienberg Fortress every year. However, the city of Würzburg cannot yet issue a permit for a drive-in cinema in the Dallenberg car park. So far, the exit restriction applies in Bavaria and a visit to the drive-in cinema is no exception, i.e. the drive-in cinema is not a valid reason to leave the house. In addition, the operation of cinemas, including drive-in cinemas, is currently not yet permitted. That’s why the city initially rejected other inquiries about drive-in cinema, City Hall spokesman Christian Weiß said when asked by the editors.

The drive-in cinema could run for two weeks

The drive-in cinema is currently planned for two weeks. Every day, the creators want to show a film on an 18 by 11 meter screen. There should be 250 cars, a maximum of 500 spaces. Manger hopes that something will happen in the coming week. The exit restrictions currently apply in Bavaria until May 10, but the restrictions have already been relaxed in many other federal states. Furthermore, the definition of a major event is still missing. It also depends on the form in which the fortress flickering can take place this year. Many smaller wine festivals are still waiting for a final statement from the state government in Munich.

Seven performances in Bad Mergentheim

In Bad Mergentheim there will be drive-in shows in the parking lot of the wildlife park from Thursday, April 30th. The organizers of the “Waldkino open air”, ie the cinema “Movies”, the bosses of the wildlife park and the city administration have been working together on the idea of the drive-in cinema since the end of March. They want to show seven films on a 50 square meter screen. The first four performances are already fully booked. Since there is no exit restriction in Baden-Württemberg, but only a contact restriction, the drive-in cinema is not a problem legally.

However, anyone planning to drive to the drive-in cinema in Bad Mergentheim will face legal problems. Because the exit restrictions in Bavaria currently do not allow such a visit.
