Würzburg: Violent criticism of one-way street plans for Neubaustraße

The Neubaustraße in Würzburg must not become a one-way street. The police union does not like this idea, which has now been taken up again by the Verkehrsclub Deutschland. It fears high security risks for citizens and police officers. The reason: at the end of the Neubaustrasse is the police inspection. However, the police often take Neubaustraße as an operational route. With a one-way regulation towards the Main, the police would have to make long detours, which in turn could mean longer waiting times for people in need. The GdP does not consider the proposal to have emergency vehicles run against the one-way street with flashing lights – it unnecessarily endangers people and officials.

In 2017, the city administration proposed redesigning the Neubaustraße to the Einaustraße towards the Main and widening the walkways. Thus, restaurateurs should have more outside space. At that time, the idea received a lot of criticism from restaurateurs who would rather keep parking spaces nearby. The VCD has now brought the proposal back into play.
