Chinese city of Wuhan, where coronavirus first erupted late last year, updates coronavirus death toll, reports Chinese state news agency Xinhua. Wuhan had 2,579 deaths, but 3,869. That’s a difference of 1,290 people.
The city has also revised up the number of confirmed infections. With another 325 infections, the total comes to 50,333. The numbers have been adjusted after a data survey that started in late March, according to the responsible authorities.
They say the update ensures that Wuhan’s information about the epidemic is transparent and that this data is correct, contrary to what critics claim. Several causes of the higher numbers are mentioned.
Due to the unexpected pressure in the hospitals, not only were people sent home without a corona test, but mistakes were also made when reporting positive tests. In addition, files of a number of the deceased were incomplete.
The authorities also say that some stakeholders, such as emergency hospitals, were not connected to the information network and were therefore late in communicating figures.
Wuhan hit hard in lockdown
The capital of Hubei province has been severely affected by the corona virus, but things are now going a lot better. The lockdown, which lasted eleven weeks, has recently been lifted. Public life in the metropolis is getting more and more going.
More than 2.1 million people worldwide have now been infected with the virus, according to a survey by Johns Hopkins University. More than 145,000 corona patients have died. As far as is known, the virus has mainly claimed lives in the United States, Italy, Spain, France and the United Kingdom.
The official death toll in China is 4,632. Since the end of December, 82,692 infections have been detected in the country. Beijing is currently mainly concerned about infected persons who take the virus from abroad to China.
