Writer and director Andrejs Migla / Article has gone to eternity

On the evening of May 12, at the age of 80, director and writer divorced from life, “Liepāja resident of the year 2020” Andrejs Migla, on the portal IrLiepaja.lv. –

Andrejs Migla was born in 1940. He was a writer, director and teacher. He has written a book about the folklore ensemble of the Liepāja Theater “Kurzeme Spraunās atstaukas” and the Liepāja Theater Klaipeda course “Our Klaipeda Course”, he has written several plays and novels together with the writer Valdis Rūmnieks.

From 1963 to 1974 he was the director of the Liepāja Theater, from 1968 – the main director. From 1975 to 1982 he worked at the Latvian Radio Theater. Created and managed the 1st and 2nd actor studio of Liepaja Theater.

He was a member of the Latvian Writers ‘Union and the Theater Workers’ Union.

The director entered the Liepāja Theater immediately after graduating from the Conservatory. From 1968 to 1974 he was also the artistic director of the theater. In the 1960s, he staged bright, innovative and fundamentally significant productions – B. Brecht’s “Mother”, E. Liv’s “Devil’s Bone Twins”, J. Gruša’s “Love, Jazz and the Devil” and others, but most of all his name is associated with Imants Kalniņš and for their musicals – the first in Latvia – “Three Musketeers” and “Prince and the Beggar Boy”. Musicals in which a strong charge of protest was hidden behind a romantic plot and a democratic musical form. [..]

The director was present at the Liepāja Theater continuously – collecting materials for books, participating in discussions dedicated to performances, sharing memories of performances or simply attending premieres. Currently, the actors of Liepāja Theater are preparing a concert program, which will include songs by Imants Kalniņš, which have been performed for Liepāja Theater performances.
