Pfizer and Moderna companies decide to raise prices COVID-19 vaccine made by them. This price increase is stated in the purchase contract with the European Union.
Quoted from Reuters, the price of one dose Pfizer vaccine increased to 19.50 euros or around Rp. 334,122 (exchange rate of Rp. 17,134 per euro). While the previous price was 15.50 euros or Rp. 265,543.
Meanwhile, the price of the Moderna vaccine rose to USD 25.50 or Rp. 367,425 (exchange rate of Rp. 14,408 per USD). Previously, the price of one dose of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine was around 19 euros or Rp. 325,505.
So far, Pfizer and Moderna have not provided an explanation regarding their decision to increase the price of the COVID-19 vaccine. Including whether this price increase will also apply throughout the world, or only in the European Union.
Moderna prefers not to comment. Pfizer declined to comment, citing confidentiality reasons.
“Beyond the injected contracts issued by the European Commission, the content remains confidential, so we will not comment,” said Pfizer.
Meanwhile, the European Union continues to hunt for COVID-19 vaccine supplies in order to accelerate the herd immunity target. They aim to have at least 70 percent of adults vaccinated by the end of the summer.
