A fourth world title for Benjamin Thomas
The race for gold was rather quickly limited to a duel between Benjamin Thomas and Kenny De Ketele, who took a lap ahead of the peloton at the start of the race. After a timid start, the Frenchman joined him halfway through the race but the Belgian did not keep up with the frantic pace imposed on the second half of the event by his opponent, who carried out incessant attacks. Thomas replaced himself with the approach of all the sprints and collected valuable points (94 in total, against 84 in the end for De Ketele) over the laps.
