Few are lucky enough to live a century. But what if we could spend a century and a half on earth? That life can be described as extraordinary or miraculous. A grandfather from the Huanuco region of Peru is recording his own age. According to information released by the Peruvian government, this grandfather, Marcelino Abad, is 124 years old.

If confirmed, Marcelino would not only set the record for being the oldest living man. The oldest person ever recorded by Guinness World Records was 122 years old. Marcelino would surpass this too and set a new record. Marcelino was born in 1900. The locals affectionately call him Mashiko.

Marcelino now resides in a nursing home. His 124th birthday was celebrated here on 5th April. A cake featuring Marcelino’s likeness was prepared as part of the birthday celebrations. Pictures of this have also been released. It was not until 2019 that information about Marcelino’s age came to the attention of the government. But after being able to calculate his exact age, the government took steps to provide him with an identity card and other benefits including pension.

On his birthday, Marcelino also shared the secret of his health after 12 decades. It was the lifestyle that helped him live so long. Marcelino’s main diet consists of fruits and lamb. Apart from this, chewing cocoa leaves is also part of the habit. But he says this is not his only habit and there is a traditional habit of chewing cocoa leaves among the locals.

The government has offered Marcelino all the help he needs to apply for the Guinness World Records after collecting the age information. But the expert committee of Guinness World Records will gather official documents and other evidence to find out that this is correct. Currently, a 111-year-old man from Britain holds the record for the oldest living man. A person from Venezuela who lived to the age of 114 was previously in the record book.
