The Farm 51 has released a new developer video detailing the progress of World War 3. The trailer features several innovations that appear to significantly change the online multiplayer shooter from the 2018 Early Access version.
The Farm 51 says the development of World War 3 ‘in full speed’ continues. That’s probably a sign of life that the developer thought necessary, as no new developer video had been released in over a year. The trailer showcases new features and tweaks in the form of footage taken entirely from gameplay sessions.
The developer says it has made the playing fields more interesting and improved navigation, while still retaining the geography of cities like Berlin, Warsaw and Smolensk. Furthermore, the action and the gunplay according to The Farm 51 improved, which would be noticeable in the recoil of weapons and the throwing of grenades. Also, modern military sights would now be available. Just like in Battlefield 2042, players will soon be able to instantly customize their weapon parts during rounds. In terms of movement, there are more possibilities, including climbing, jumping through holes, lying flat and sprinting fast. Finally, there are UI improvements and a killcam is present.
World War 3 was known as a multiplayer shooter that was supposed to offer a more realistic experience than the modern Battlefield games. According to the developer, the goal is still to provide realistic simulations, but in combination with the experience that it is also fun to play. Realism remains important, but the various gameplay innovations mean that something is lost. The Farm 51 calls this “playable realism.”
The multiplayer shooter was released in October 2018 as Steam Early Access-titel, but had some problems and got a lot of criticism from players. Not only were there bugs and performance issues, but the gameplay elements such as shooting and movement didn’t appeal to everyone. The developer came with multiple updates and new content, but decided in August last year to turn the helm. Together with publisher MY.GAMES, the development team decided to pull the game from Steam to continue development separately from the live update model. The developer then promised to come up with significant changes. It is still unknown when World War 3 will be available again on Steam.
