Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Israel continues its attacks on Gaza, Palestine. This was done in its campaign to destroy the Hamas militia, which launched an attack on Israeli territory on October 7.

Even so, Tel Aviv is starting to encounter obstacles. This is related to his attack campaign on social media, which was countered by a wave of rejection from the world community.

Social media users around the world, and especially young people, have witnessed the devastation caused by Israel’s indiscriminate bombing of the Palestinian enclave on their social media platforms of choice. Images were obtained in real-time for more than a month.

Israel itself has made efforts to limit information from Gaza by restricting the entry of international journalists into the territory. However, despite all these efforts, thanks to social media, Israel is no longer able to hide the truth about its actions in Palestine.

Now social media users are openly mocking Israel for controlling the narrative of its war in Gaza, and are quickly exposing Israel’s lies which are also being amplified by mainstream media.

On November 29, the #WeWontBeSilenced campaign launched across social media platforms, encouraging posts of this graphic, or an image with one hand covering the mouth, and a relevant message written on the other hand or poster.

“Since its launch, this video has received hundreds of thousands of views across multiple platforms and will continue to gain traction as social media accounts are impacted by shadowbanning, censorship and intimidation,” Islamic world analyst Omar Sulaeman told Al JazeeraFriday (1/12/2023).

It’s not just Israel that knows it’s losing the narrative war. Israel’s ally and funder, the United States (US), has expressed concern about changes in public opinion regarding the conflict.

Politico reported that senior Biden administration officials are concerned about how a temporary ceasefire “will allow journalists greater access to Gaza and the opportunity to better explain the destruction there and turn public opinion against Israel.

“In other words, US officials are aware of the shift in public opinion since the beginning of this bombing episode and are concerned that the entry of journalists into the Gaza Strip could reveal further the genocide that Israel is carrying out there with their permission and support,” the media wrote.

Meanwhile, other evidence shows that the sympathy of the US ruling party, the Democratic Party, in the Middle East is now more focused on the Palestinian people than Israel, 49% compared to 38% previously. This shift in sympathy for the Democratic Party is an indication of the weakening of the mainstream media’s monopoly on the Israeli-Palestinian narrative.

On the other hand, many Republicans are also starting to rethink US-Israel relations with regard to foreign aid. Former US President Donald Trump’s “America First” doctrine has led many Republicans to question whether supporting Israel with regular military aid should remain the party’s foreign policy priority.

World Pressure

Israel’s attack on Gaza, Palestine, attracted the sympathy of many parties in the world. Most criticized Israel’s move to indiscriminately invade Gaza under the pretext of eliminating the Hamas militia but killed many civilians and caused total destruction in the region.

Data from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED), which covered demonstrations between October 7 and 27, recorded 3,761 demonstrations following these attacks worldwide. 95% of the demonstrations were peaceful, but about 5% turned violent or were dispersed by the police or other security agencies.

“The majority of the demonstrations, around 86%, were pro-Palestinian, while a small number were neutral, calling for peace and a ceasefire without taking an explicit pro-Israel or pro-Palestinian stance,” the agency was quoted as saying by Reuters.

The largest number of demonstrations recorded globally occurred after the controversial explosion at Al-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital in Gaza City on October 17. Hamas accused this of being an Israeli action, while Tel Aviv blamed this incident on the Islamic Jihad group.

Although protests in cities such as London, Berlin and Washington received the greatest media attention in Western countries, the majority of demonstrations recorded by ACLED took place in the Middle East and North Africa. This region has a majority Muslim population and is pro-Palestinian.

When viewed from a regional perspective, big cities in Europe are often rocked by protests and counter-protests between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel demonstrators. Some of them turned violent.

In Berlin, ACLED reported hundreds of demonstrators were arrested at several protests during October, when pro-Palestinian protesters clashed with police.

In central Paris, thousands of people rallied on November 4 to call for a ceasefire with placards reading “Stop the cycle of violence” and “Doing nothing is an omission.” French authorities have previously banned several pro-Palestinian gatherings over fears of public disorder.

More than 300,000 pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched through central London last Saturday. Police arrested more than 120 people as they tried to stop right-wing protesters from ambushing the main demonstration.

In the United States (US), the pro-Palestinian march in Washington was the largest in recent years. At universities, dueling student groups confronted each other in tense situations, and there were reports of harassment and attacks on pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian students.

“The US was the site of the highest number of counter-demonstrations involving pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian protesters,” it added.
