Paris

French entertain Ukraine on the first matchday of Group D World Cup qualification 2022 european zone. France as the defending champion was held to a 1-1 draw.

France vs Ukraine takes place at the Stade de France, Thursday (25/3/2021) early morning WIB. Les Bleus first led 1-0 in the first half through a beautiful goal from Antoine Griezmann.

Ukraine successfully forced the score to end 1-1. The team made by Andriy Shevchenko got a goal through Presnel Kimpembe’s suicide.

This draw is certainly not a good thing for France. Because, this team made by Didier Deschamps is the defending champion of the 2018 World Cup.

In other matches, Finland vs Bosnia-Herzegovina also ended in a draw, namely with a score of 2-2. Teemu Pukki scored twice for Finland, Bosnian goals scored by Miralem Pjanic and Miroslav Stevanovic.

The course of the match

France immediately took control of the game from Ukraine from the start of the match. Les Bleus’ first threat to Ukraine came in the 11th minute when Mykola Matviyenko blocked for Oliver Giroud’s shot.

After constant pressure, France could only score a goal in the 19th minute. Antoine Griezmann curled a shot at Heorhiy Bushchan’s far post. 1-0 France take the lead.

A minute later, France almost doubled the score. From inside the penalty box, Kylian Mbappe’s shot failed to target the goal.

Ukraine is not without opportunities. Vitaliy Mykolenko had time to get shooting space in the 37th minute. However, his shot ball flew high over the Hugo Lloris crossbar.

There were no additional goals until halftime even though France continued to press. The first half was completed 1-0.

In the second half, France missed and Ukraine had to be willing to find the net. Serhiy Sydorchuk grabs Oleksandr Karavaev’s bait, who then hits Presnel Kimpembe’s foot and outwits Lloris. The score changed to 1-1 in the 57th minute.

France increased the intensity of attacks after conceding. On the other hand, Ukraine is defending very solidly, which almost puts 10 players in the final third of the defense.

Until the second half has been running for half an hour, France lost his mind to enter the Ukrainian penalty box. Various attempts until crosses were unable to produce a threat.

It was so difficult to get into the Ukrainian penalty box, Paul Pogba was forced to fire a speculative shot from distance in the 80th minute. However, the Manchester United midfielder’s shot ball was still far from the target.

Kimpembe almost paid for his mistake at the end of the match. He manages to catch the ball with his head from a corner, but the direction is still right at goalkeeper Bushchan.

There are no additional goals until the game is complete. France must be willing to draw 1-1 with Ukraine.
