VIKERSUND / AKERSGATA (Nettavisen): On Thursday, Tande set off the world’s largest ski jump in Vikersund and landed at 222 meters in the first training round.

– It’s pure joy. It was delicious. It was adrenaline rush and joy mixed in one. It was very good, says Tande to Nettavisen.
The training jump was Tande’s first jump on a ski flying slope after the accident in Planica almost a year ago where he was declared clinically dead for several minutes.
It made him feel really nervous before the jump.
– I was nervous of course. I felt pretty cold until I let go of the boom. Then it dawns on you that “now you can not go back”. So then it was just a matter of driving, says Tande.
In his second training jump, he stretched to 222.5 meters.

Relieved mom
Nervous was also mother Trude Tande who followed her son’s training from the stands in Vikersund on Thursday.
– I almost did not dare to look, but it went surprisingly well. I’ve been really nervous today. I have not slept more than three and a half hours last night because I have been lying and thinking about this. I do not quite know what he is made of this boy. I am very proud of him, that he has dared to go downhill, jump again and jump so well, says mother Tande to Nettavisen.
She explains that her heart rate was well over a hundred when her son went downhill, but at the same time says that she tried to think positively.
– I tried to think that he has had his accident and that I do not think he wants more accidents. He’s so good at what he does, Trude Tande.
– Testimony of mental strength
NRK expert Anders Jacobsen was also among those who followed the training session from the plain in Vikersund. He was impressed by Tande.
– It’s an insanely relieved and insanely happy Tande who is on the plain. It testifies to a mental strength that not many people understand. What went through the head of this man when he released that boom, it is very uncertain, says Jacobsen on NRK Radio.
– It is a huge relief. We see it is a family who stand and pat each other and who have had a tough minute now. They smile bravely, Jacobsen continues.
Dropped press hit
Beforehand, there was great excitement about how Tande would react in the meeting with the ground in Vikersund.
Earlier in the day, the Norwegian was scheduled to pose with his teammates at a press conference, however Teeth never showed up.
The explanation was that he had enough to concentrate on what was going to happen on the ground. Understandably.
