Work permit for 120 drivers withdrawn from container transporter ACT, company is challenging decision

The government inspection services have revoked the work permits of at least 120 drivers at Antwerp Container Transport (ACT). That reports port magazine Flows and the news is confirmed by ACT. According to the company, it is a possible mistake from the past.

After a check, ACT was notified that the work permits of the Turkish drivers are being revoked. According to the ACV trade union, this concerns 161 drivers, container transporter ACT disputes this and states that it concerns only 120 drivers.

ACT says it’s baffled and doesn’t understand the inspector’s decision. It would be a possible mistake from a few years ago. The Antwerp container transporter is challenging the decision and is planning new hires of drivers.

‘We want to emphasize that all drivers here in Belgium have a contract and are compensated according to the Belgian wage standards and that we have always brought and registered all foreign drivers here in the correct manner,’ says ACT.

“The results of this investigation, to which we gave our full cooperation, are still being challenged by us and can certainly not be a reason to revoke the work permits of the drivers with immediate effect and without any form of appeal or defence.” ACT yet.
