Woolfenden Praises Ipswich Town Defender Elkan Baggott’s Performance in English League Cup Victory

Woolfenden gave an assessment of the performance of the defender who replaced his role in the English League Cup.

Ipswich Town defender Luke Woolfenden praised his teammate in the defense sector, Elkan Baggott, who was considered to have performed well when helping the team to a 3-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the English League Cup two days ago.

Manager Kieran McKenna only fielded Baggott in cup events in the 2023/24 season. Nevertheless, Woolfenden assesses that Baggott’s opportunity to break into the main squad in the EFL Championship is open.

This 24 year old defender sees Baggott experiencing good development in every match. His experience with the Indonesian national team, both senior and junior, has further enriched Baggott’s way of playing.

“In my opinion, that’s as far as he wants to go,” said Woolfenden when asked about how far Baggott could develop with Ipswich. TWTD.

“He is 6 feet 5 inches (1.95 meters) tall, fast, good in the air and good on the ball. He also played for [timnas] Indonesia, so he can do what he wants, you know what I mean?”

Woolfenden referred to Baggott’s performance in three English League Cup matches. Woolfenden himself was not played when smothering Wolves with Cameron Burgess. McKenna paired Baggott with George Edmundson in the heart of defense.

Woolfenden added that the good performance shown by the players when conquering the English Premier League club would make it difficult for McKenna to determine the composition of the team in the future.

“George and the Elks were outstanding that night, and there were players throughout the squad who came in for the Carabao Cup game, and did a great job,” Woolfenden said.

“All the players who come in do their job, so it’s a headache for the coach, isn’t it? But competition is needed by the whole squad, and I am part of that.”

“This squad was built by the manager for a reason. For example, Sam Morsy received his fifth yellow card, meaning he is out for the match at Huddersfield. So, the manager needs to make changes, and he will know who to choose.”
