Women’s Premier League from tomorrow; Mumbai will face Gujarat in the opening match

by Ethan Caldwell

Mumbai: Indian heroine Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the host Mumbai Indians team when the Indian Women’s Premier League cricket starts here tomorrow. Team owner Nita Ambani suggested that Harman is being made the heroine on the strength of her experience leading the national team.

Mumbai had bid for two other players who paid more than Harman. Nat Skiver Bernd was brought to the team for 3.2 crores and Pooja Watsarkar himself for 1.9 crores, while the team spent 1.8 crores for Harman. Harman is the only cricketer in world cricket to have played more than 150 T20 matches. Even in the men’s side, there are no players who have played so many T20 matches. Tomorrow, Mumbai Indians will face Gujarat Giants in the opening match at the DY Patil Stadium.
