Women’s Champions League: Barcelona beat Benfica and qualify for the quarter-finals

The Barcelona women’s team beat the Benfica from a landslide and secured passage to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The soccer match is over 6-2. However, the difference might have been reduced were it not for the quick intervention of Sandra Paños, who saved on more than one occasion and managed to save two penalties.

Superiority of the Azulgrana

Lisbon’s Caixa Futebol Campus stadium experienced an avalanche of goals last Thursday after Benfica faced Barcelona in a key game in which both teams looked for victory to secure progress to the next stage of the Women’s Champions League 2022-2023.

The blaugrana opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a goal from Irene Paredes, while Claudia Pina doubled the lead in the first half of added time. Early in the second leg, Aitana Bonmatí scored the third goal in the 48th minute and Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic secured victory ten minutes later.

Despite going under the score, Benfica never gave up and Jessica Silva gave the team breathing space with a goal. However, Ana Seica scored the fifth goal for Barza from an own goal and, subsequently, Mariona Caldentey put the sixth in the 90th minute.

It should be noted that the Portuguese team had the opportunity to cut the difference in the 71st minute and 90+4 with two penalties saved by Sandra Paños.
