Women Strip Down for Breast Cancer Awareness Comic Act – Inspiring Story of Germijns and co.

Germijns managed to inspire Ann Van den Broeck, Tine Embrechts, Julie Vermeire, Sarah Vandeursen, Zita Wauters, Maïmouna Badjie and Marleen Merckx to develop a comic act with her. The women take off their clothes to draw attention to the fight against breast cancer and the impact it has on the body and life.

With the initiative, Germijns follows the example of Dieter Coppens, who last year managed to get seven male colleagues to do the same. Then to draw attention to prostate and testicular cancer.

Just like with the men, Germijns and co. is preparing for a one-off comic act for 2,000 spectators on March 26 in the Kursaal in Ostend. The proceeds from that act will go entirely to Kom op tegen Kanker.

The women are followed during the entire process leading up to that evening. They meet several women who testify about the disease and its impact. This results in a number of episodes that will be shown on VRT 1 and VRT MAX in the week of March 25.

According to David Vansteenbrugge, general director of Kom op tegen Kanker, last year’s campaign ensured that more men dare to discuss prostate and testicular cancer with their GP. He hopes that in the new season a number of underexposed themes in breast cancer care – such as sexuality and aftercare – will receive attention.

Tickets for the performance of Germijns and co. are available for purchase via vrtmax.be/doemee.
