Woman who climbed on dolphin’s back in Zandvoort reports to police

The dolphin, a pointed snout, suddenly swam among the bathers in Zandvoort yesterday. While other swimmers tried to lead the animal back towards the open sea, the woman grabbed the animal and climbed on its back. In the images, among other things to see on Dumpert, is heard of bystanders criticizing and berating the woman out loud. “Act normal you”, it sounds several times.

An investigation is underway to determine whether a criminal offense has been committed, the police said.

Very disturbing

SOS Dolfijn called the presence of the dolphins near Zandvoort yesterday ‘very disturbing’. “These are toothed whales and they do not belong in the North Sea. They are deep-sea animals.”

The animals probably got lost, said Annemarie van den Berg of the aid organization. “If they end up in the North Sea, they get into trouble. These animals do not survive well in these types of waters. They look for food at a depth of two to three kilometers.”

Rescue teams try to stay between the coast and the dolphins to prevent the animals from stranding. “If that happens, they are doomed. Our goal is to have the animals turn around so that they swim out of the North Sea on their own.”
