NEW YORK – A spectacular collision between two vehicles caused the death of a woman and left three others injured.
The incident occurred at about 3:25 am Friday between Atlantic Avenue and Court Street, involving a Honda sedan and a Mercedes Benz car, according to police.
Authorities say an 18-year-old girl aboard the Honda was transported by paramedics to Methodist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The 32-year-old driver of the Honda and a 29-year-old passenger in the back were hospitalized and are expected to survive.
The 25-year-old driver of the Mercedes attempted to flee the scene but was then taken into custody moments later, according to authorities. A 24-year-old passenger in the Mercedes Benz was hospitalized at Methodist Hospital and is expected to survive, authorities said.
The crash caused the closure of several streets near the scene, so it was recommended to avoid the area.
An investigation is ongoing.
