Contrary to initial reports, a woman who jumped out of the window in a fire in Vienna’s favorites on Thursday morning did not die in the hospital, but is in critical condition in the intensive care unit. This was confirmed to the APA from the treating hospital in the afternoon. The emergency services initially received information that the 34-year-old had not survived the fall.
The 38-year-old partner of the woman and three children aged four, eleven and 13 years had been able to save themselves from the fire apartment through the staircase unharmed, the police emphasized in the afternoon about the events of the fire in the apartment building in Karplusgasse. Why the woman could not follow her family was still unclear, as was the cause of the fire.
At around 5 am on Thursday, the professional fire brigade was called to a fire in an attic apartment in Karplusgasse on the border of the favorites and Meidling districts. Before the fire department arrived, the woman had escaped from the flames through a window on the fifth floor. She jumped out of the house, the 34-year-old suffered from a polytrauma, including serious head injuries, said Corina Had, spokeswoman for the Vienna Rescue Service.
The police and fire brigade provided first aid until the rescue service, which had several teams on site, took over the resuscitation. The 34-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries where, according to the first reports, she died on Thursday morning. These now turned out to be wrong.
