Woman in Lansingerland accidentally vaccinated instead of tested | NOW

A woman from the South Holland municipality of Lansingerland was accidentally vaccinated instead of tested during the large-scale test operation, the regional GGD confirms Thursday in conversation with NU.nl after reporting by Rijnmond.

The woman would not have read the appointment confirmation properly and was under the assumption that she would be vaccinated. Once on site, her data was not properly verified, so that she was actually directed to the injection line, instead of the test line.

Normally, the woman should have shown her appointment confirmation upon arrival. However, she had forgotten it. The system for online appointment verification turned out to be slow at the time, after which the desk clerk redirected the woman to “save time”, quotes Rijnmond.

The data would be reviewed after the vaccination. That happened, after which the error came to light. The woman was then immediately checked by a doctor. Like all vaccinees, she will receive a second dose of the vaccine at a later date.

According to the GGD, the woman is doing well. In conversation with the regional broadcaster, the GGD said it was “shocked” by the incident. “It shows how important it is that all steps are taken carefully.”

Lansingerland called on its nearly 63,000 residents two years or older to participate in an in-depth investigation on January 11, after 46 people in the municipality had tested positive for the British corona variant. It was the first time such a large-scale test operation took place in the country. There appeared to be no widespread distribution of the British variant in the municipality.
