Former German Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel on Sebastian Kurz’s performance, the differences between turquoise-green and black-green, who prevented him as President of the European Commission and why his Hungarian mission failed.
In your new book, an autobiography, it says ambiguously: “People are like they play football. I would like to apologize to everyone I have fouled in the course of my 68-year football career. ”Who did you foul everything in your political career?
Wolfgang Schüssel: So I already left some marks and furrows in football. That was due to zeal, not to bad intent.
And politically?
If you work in top politics, you cannot please everyone. You also have to make decisions that hurt. There must have been wounds. Former friends who then kept their distance for a while. But it is also important to be able to isolate yourself in a delicate situation. The most precious thing you have in politics is time and energy. This has to be used very precisely and in a focused manner.
How many friends have you lost entirely?
