A secret has finally been revealed. A team of scientists secretly spent three years excavating a stunning fossil site in New South Wales, Australia. The site, called McGraths Flat, presents interesting fossils of plants, insects and animals that date back to between 11 million and 16 million years ago during the Miocene epoch.
One of the most notable discoveries is that of a spider fossil. According to a statement issued by the Australian Museum on Monday, the team found 13 spiders – “often perfectly preserved” – on McGraths Flat. In the past few years, only four spider fossils have been found in all of Australia.
