Withdrawal from Russia weighs on Sulzer’s result

July 29, 2022 1:30 p.m

Sulzer generated sales totaling 1.52 billion francs in the first half of 2022, the globally active industrial group from Winterthur reported in a press release Message. In a year-on-year comparison, this corresponds to growth of 0.9 percent. Operating profit excluding value adjustments increased by 4.9 percent year-on-year to CHF 135.8 million.

The operating result at EBIT level, on the other hand, fell from a profit of CHF 97.4 million in the first half of 2021 to a loss of CHF 25.5 million in the half year under review. As a background, Sulzer cites write-downs of 132.5 million francs in the course of Sulzer’s exit from the Russian business and the closure of the locations in Poland. Excluding this, an EBIT of CHF 107 million would have been realized, the group explains.

For the year as a whole, Sulzer anticipates sales growth of between 2 and 4 percent and an improvement in operational profitability to around 10 percent of sales. The group can rely on an order backlog that has increased by 10 percent to CHF 1.90 billion compared to the end of 2021. “Thanks to our diversified product portfolio, strong operational implementation and strict cost management, we have succeeded in further increasing operational profitability,” Sulzer CEO Frederic Lalanne is quoted as saying in the press release. “With our solid backlog, we are well positioned to capitalize on the ongoing momentum, continue our profitable growth and achieve our full-year guidance once again.” hs
