Despite the coronavirus pandemic, NASA continues to advance steadily in the design of its next missions. Thus, the US space agency called a contest, in which it offers millionaire prizes, to design the toilet to be used on its next trip to the Moon.
And while NASA has bathrooms for astronauts thinking about the mission that is scheduled for 2014, the idea is to find a special design that can work without problems in lunar gravity.
Therefore, the requirements are that the toilet be small, efficient and capable of operating in both microgravity and lunar gravity.
The idea of NASA is to reduce the volume of the WC by 70% and for this it trusts the contributions that can come through HeroX, crowdsourcing platform (open distributed collaboration).
The prizes of the contest are as follows: first place $ 20,000 ($ 16,400,000 Chilean pesos), second place $ 10,000 (8,200,000 CLP) and third place $ 5,000 (4,100,000 CLP). The deadline for the presentation of projects is August 17 and the winner will be announced on September 30.
