“With clients, you have to be clear about payments and inquiries”, according to Lacaci & Delgado

|

Carlos Lacaci Y Adriana Delgado, the managing partners of the Madrid law firm Lacaci & Delgado, consider that “with clients you have to be very clear on two things: regarding payments and regarding inquiries.”

“We are hyper-transparent when it comes to the economic question. So that the client knows how much the lawsuit is going to cost him and when he has to make his payments. In the order sheet, which he signs before we start working on his matter, is the closed cost, including a calculation on travel and per diem, ”explains Carlos Lacaci.

«We have heard that some colleagues leave this for later. It’s a mistake. And a source of problems, always “, adds Adriana Delgado.

In Lacaci’s opinion, this is, in part, because some of those colleagues have no prior experience in the business world.

“Before opening our office in 2011, I worked for a long time as a business consultant, from the age of 22 to 36. For a long time I dedicated myself to negotiating contracts between companies and with people. This previous experience, without a doubt, has colored our entire trajectory, and it is logical. Hence our hyper-transparency in this field ”, emphasizes the lawyer, 47 years old.

INQUIRIES

On customer inquiries, Lacaci & Delgado are also blunt. On many occasions, the client takes advantage of the existence of mobile phones to assault his lawyer morning, noon and night, regardless of time or time, in order to make inquiries, to communicate things or even to “give him orders ».

At Lacaci & Delgado, things don’t work that way. In this sense, they are a benchmark.

«We are not available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is impossible. And it should not be so. The client must be educated, it must be made clear that they will be taken care of. But we have office hours, 9 to 8 Monday through Thursday, and 9 to 3 on Friday. Of course, if there is an emergency, such as an arrest, we are available and we will assist you, ”says Adriana Delgado.

The problem, sometimes, is that there are clients who seek more a psychologist or a counselor than a lawyer. «In the event that they require more time than usual, we have bags for hours. We also have this clearly stipulated, “adds Delgado.

Clear things and chocolate I hope, as the saying goes, one could say of the philosophy that inspires this prestigious multidisciplinary firm specialized in criminal and civil procedural law, immigration, labor and contentious-administrative law and that make up a total of 5 lawyers.

«ARTISANS» OF THE PRACTICE OF LAW

When Carlos Lacaci left his previous occupation as a business consultant and began his career in the law, he was very clear that he wanted to enjoy his job, his profession as a lawyer.

Hence, it has not wanted to grow and multiply, increasing the number of lawyers and branches in cities such as Barcelona, Valencia, Seville or Bilbao, to name a few.

«We intend to continue being artisans in the practice of law. If we were to become a company, I, personally, would lose that contact with the client and with the cases. That is what I fled from when I stopped being a consultant»Recognizes Lacaci, a surname with historical and military reminiscences.

His great-uncle was the captain general of the First Military Region, Guillermo Quintana Lacaci, who, during the 1982 coup, remained faithful to the King and the Constitution and who two years later, in 1984, was assassinated in the middle of the street by an ETA commando.

A relationship of which he is very proud.

A CLEAR MARKETING STRATEGY

Lacaci & Delgado are very aware that the world of law no longer moves, as in the past, only by word of mouth.

“One in three customers, about 33 percent, reach us through the Internet. From what they read about us on social media, for example. We are very active on Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We also have a Blog », Delgado says.

And not only that. They have become opinions of authority and of reference. They participate in television debates, express their opinions on television and radio programs about current events.

All this contributes to the strengthening of your brand and your reputation. What builds trust, the “Holy Grail” of the legal profession. If you have the customer’s trust, the machinery works perfectly.

“Lately we have received clients whose businesses have been affected by the pandemic. The Supreme Court has excluded force majeure so that the thing will lead to a patrimonial responsibility of the Administration, “he believes. “They are going to be long processes, like when the rapeseed oil happened. People were compensated, but it took many years ”, Lacaci points out.

Neither of Lacaci’s or Delgado’s parents were related to the law. Lacaci’s father was a businessman.

“From the age of 9 or 10”, recalls the lawyer, “I began to say that I wanted to be a prosecutor to go against the bad guys. In fact, I was going to be a public prosecutor, but when I was in the third year my mother died unexpectedly. His death upset my destiny. I finished my degree and entered the business world for 14 years. Later, I opened an office, Carlos Lacaci Abogados, and I dedicated myself to what is, truly, my vocation. In 2016 I met Adriana and we merged, forming what we are today, Lacaci & Delgado Abagados ».

Delgado’s parents were architects. Nothing to do with the world of law directly either, although his uncle, Dionisio Martínez, a former Garrigues partner, was a positive influence to start in this world of law.

To find this vocation that they both share, among many other things.
