Winter assistance to Ukraine: Biden named three priorities

Kirby recalled that last winter, Russian occupiers tried to destroy critical infrastructure in Ukraine. And now it is expected that the enemy will use such tactics this winter. This is evidenced by the drone and missile attacks carried out by the Russians in recent days.

According to the coordinator, US President Joe Biden and Presidential National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan instructed the government to prioritize efforts to help Ukraine get through the winter, as it did last year.

“Therefore, we have focused on promoting three key areas. First, we are strengthening the capabilities of Ukrainian air defense“so they can shoot down Russian missiles and Iranian drones targeting critical infrastructure,” Kirby said.

He clarified that the United States, together with its partners, provided Ukraine with Patriot, Hawk and Avenger anti-aircraft missile systems and other air defense systems.

“Second, we are helping Ukraine strengthen its energy infrastructure“Kirby said.

According to him, our country was provided with protective equipment, including special nets, reinforcement and HESCO barriers to protect important facilities.

“And thirdly, we are transferring reserve equipment and materials to Ukraineincluding high-voltage autotransformers, industrial fuel generators and mobile off-grid equipment to improve resilience and prevent heat and power loss,” he added.

Strikes to the energy sector

Let us recall that last fall and winter the Russian occupiers began massive shelling of Ukraine. Their targets were critical infrastructure facilities.

A significant part of Ukrainian energy facilities were damaged due to such enemy attacks. As a result, problems with electricity supply began throughout Ukraine.

The country has introduced daily blackout schedules.

Earlier, the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine reported that energy facilities in Ukraine received three levels of protection.
