Winner Smartest Man: “Even looking back was exciting again”

After an extremely exciting final against lawyer Khalid Kasem, Van de Zilver can now call himself the smartest person. Marieke works on the political editors of the RTL News. It is the second time that a woman has won the program. Angela de Jong, columnist of the AD, won in 2017.

‘Very happy’

“I watched the final tonight with a group of friends in the pub,” says Van de Zilver. “We had a great party. I am very happy of course. And I get so many nice reactions.”

The winner had to keep secret until the last moment how high she would finish. The program has already been recorded. “The final takes 40 minutes. The first half hour I managed to stay calm tonight. But those last ten minutes I found so incredibly exciting again tonight.”

Nerve-wracking

“Because I knew that the final round would be nerve-racking. That is why I became nervous again. I was also very curious how my friends would react. That was so nice to see. Everyone sympathized. Great!”

Congratulations Angela de Jong

During her participation in the sixteenth series of the program, she received many reactions anyway. For example, a teacher responded from her studies. “And Angela de Jong, the previous female winner, congratulated me.”

She is full of praise for her fellow candidates. “I really enjoyed being able to play the final against Khalid and Marc. They were very strong candidates and they were super nice guys. It was exciting among each other, but also very enjoyable.”

Whether she feels very smart now? “I already felt smart,” she laughs. “Not smarter than yesterday, you know.”

Challenge Cup

She received the challenge trophy from the previous winner, presenter and former skater Rob Hadders. The TV quiz, in which historian Maarten van Rossem assists presenter Philip Freriks with nice facts and remarks, attracts between 1 and 2 million viewers almost daily.
