Style icon Fran Lebowitz always causes enthusiasm in the USA. Her current book is being published in German for the first time – and you can win one of five copies.
Fran Lebowitz is not only a writer – even if her writing is still the reason for her fame today. The American has a moving story behind her: Andy Warhol discovered Lebowitz when she was still working as a cleaner and taxi driver. After you as a columnist for Warhol’s legendary magazine “Interview”, later for “Mademoiselle” and still writes for “Vanity Fair”, her sharp mind could no longer stand in the way of an obstacle. Today she is recognized as a style icon, actress (Law & Order) and grouchy-entertaining Talkgast revered. In the USA, the feminist 71-year-old is now considered a cult figure. And here?
Lebowitz has not yet been published in German in book form – but this hurdle has finally been overcome. Because: Since her current Netflix series „Pretend it’s a City“ it is celebrated in all German newspapers. In it, she portrays none other than her friend Martin Scorsese as he strolls through New York while chatting with her. Now her book “New York and the Rest of the World” followed.
One should not only look at Lebowitz, but also read it, because she is an observer who is as attentive as she is wise. In addition to her dry humor, she exudes timeless elegance. Anyone who devotes himself to her lines will encounter a mixture of wit and satire, which, despite the bitter truth, puts a smile on your face. It has been interwoven with the cosmos of the world capital New York for 50 years. And now she is writing about it. Her latest book is about the general, the smallest, the human, about people, behavior and places. She discusses: “Children: for or against?” and questions the urban, from self-optimization, to body cult, unaffordable apartments, to vanities and career boosters.
